The Lizard Dive System

The LIZARD Dive system provides a dedicated workhorse of electromagnetic inspection for the toughest of subsea environments, whether shallow or deep water. The LIZARD Dive system is intended for use with dive personnel or for robotically manipulated inspection campaigns where accuracy and repeatability of results are paramount.

Powered by the LIZARD FGI technology (Field Gradient Imaging), the LIZARD Dive and accompanying software package allows for inspection campaigns requiring Alternating Current Field Measurement (AC Field Measurement) with the addition of the phase plane impedance responses from both Bx (Absolute) and Bz (Current Perturbation). This ensures LIZARD’s Dynamic Field Coupling Feedback, enabling real-time corrections to probe deployment and travel, with all data archived for post-inspection analysis.

The additional phase impedance dataset can be configured simply and quickly via the Adjustment menu within the LIZARD software. This optimizes the dataset output and mitigates probe handling issues, providing an electro-magnetic dataset that is unrivaled in the industry. By enabling the additional data points lacking in other AC Field Measurement applications, the LIZARD Dive has become the system of choice for complex inspection regimes, including robotically manipulated and ROV-deployed provisions where accuracy, technical competence, and repeatable results are the key to success.

We believe that inspection of high-quality assets deserves the ultimate in defect capture confidence. The LIZARD Dive enables the high quality and user-friendly interface enabling topside inspection personnel to transfer their knowledge to the subsea environment whilst maintaining the many features found with the LIZARD M8 XL topside iteration of the LIZARD technology. As such the Lizard ‘electromagnetic toolbox’ approach is maintained, allowing users to operate and achieve high quality data sets with ease. The single data set acquired using the LIZARD can provide for defect length, depth, position, and the coupling of the interrogating electro-magnetic field to the conductive piece. The powerful pre and post data acquisition phase correction ability provided by the LIZARD Adjustment Menu enables complex and traditionally difficult sensor array configuration to become a simple affair.

Lizard Dive Subsea Sensors

The unique Field Gradient Imaging technology with LIZARD sensors provides a comprehensive choice of probe types for integrity assessment of engineering structures and components. The LIZARD Dive suite mirrors the topside probe versions, enabling experienced operators to transfer their skill set to the subsea environment while retaining the composite dataset that sets the Lizard brand apart.

Specific to the LIZARD Dive system is the LPSR range of multi-channel arrays, designed and field-proven for robotically manipulated, diver-free inspection regimes. This non-contacting, multi-facetted array solution features array switching capability for the LP170 and LP180 versions, allowing the sensor to target different structural aspects without requiring additional rotation features for the robotic scan interface.

The LPSR range offers the greatest Dynamic Field Coupling range of the LIZARD sensor catalogue, enabling up to 10mm of spacing from the conductive test piece. This assists in inspecting complex structural locations, through non-conductive coatings, and even through marine growth.

Custom Lizard Dive Supply

The LIZARD Dive is certainly suited for many inspection tasks however there are occasions where a bespoke or modified system type, LIZARD array or software features is required. LIZARD NDE Ltd have both the experience and capability to provide the LIZARD technology in various formats to ensure the resultant deliverable will work and, in many cases, exceed expectations.
